So I may have said au revouir to France and Hola to Spain as I write this, but I've got lots to catch you up on so I'm going to rewind! So day two in Parii!! Presented us with a trip to Versailles! I'm not going to lie, initially this wasn't something I intended to do or really knew existed (oops) but I'm so glad we went, the gardens were beautiful and MASSIVE! I can't imagine what it would have been like to live there, like... Just going to walk the dog, be back in 2 days, bye! Seriously, that big!
Nevertheless it was stunning and came with singing fountains... Not your regular garden. Next it was off in search of some lunch which we found in Montmartre! I enjoyed this because 1 the food was delish, and 2 our waitresses were probably the first frenchies not to be rude to us, so win win really! Maybe it's because I just named them a frenchie... Anyway! Lunch was fab, and refuelled us to walk up the hill towards the Sacre Coeur! Feeling like a true Parisian walking through cobble streets watching artists at work and vino in full flow I was seriously content with life.
Out of no where the Sacre Coeur appeared in all its glory! For those of you that think I'm just spelling something wrong, the SC is a huge church on top of a hill in Paris, basically! Pondering around the inside, which of course was beaut and holy... I have to admit when I was looking at all the art work and statues on display all I could think about was the Twitter account of 'Medieval Problems' and the title that would go under each painting! If you don't follow the account... Do it, it's literally my favourite thing ever, so the holy church had me in stitches if nothing else!
Passing the looky looky men and down onto the bank of grass below, my twinnie and I set up camp to enjoy a well earned chill and potential, accidental sleep! It's okay nothing got stolen! Being the Dora I am, I thought it would be interesting to walk back to our hotel...all was going well until we realised that the road our hotel was on happened to be a really long f**king road! So a taxi ride it was!
A change of wardrobe and some food later and we were off to the Eiffel Tower!!! AHHHHH this was what I had been most excited about, finally I can say I've been up the tall thing that makes Paris, Paris! After getting chased by a homeless stranger, buying a bottle of rosé that we then had to chuck in the bin and queueing for a hour it was time to go up the first lift to the second floor! Despite the set backs I'm still positive and excited! Getting to the top was fabulous, the view was brill and really pretty... Until out of no where it starts to HAIL!! Yeah, real life, hard, ice, falling from the sky, accompanied by Its mate rain!
As you can see we weren't exactly dressed in the most waterproof of outfits, nor warned that there was a chance of hail as soon as we reached the second floor to get the lift to the top! Waiting it out for about 10 mins in the cold we decided to give up on the second queue! In my eyes we had technically been up the tower and seen the views, just not the top! Now wishing we hadn't been forced to dump the rosé and weren't cold, wet and sober, we headed back to the bottom.
Still pissing it down (and I'm in flip flops!) I decided to get some candy floss to cheer myself up and attempt at hailing a taxi...again in the rain with no shelter! Safe to say I looked like a drowned rat at best! 20 mins of running through the roads like a seal on acid, we still had no luck with the taxis! SHOCK HORROR, everyone else had too fled from the Eiffel Tower and wanted to get dry as soon as. With this in mind we began the treck to the other side. My logic was, if we kept walking...we'd find a taxi with its green light on!
In serious need of a stiff drink/ hot chocolate (the toss up was a struggle!), we found a cafe and sat outside to get dry and rethink our plan! After an hour of encouraging ourselves that the night hadn't been a complete disaster and it would be a story to tell if nothing else... (Utter lie of course, we were gutted, and still not drunk)! We managed to hail a taxi and make our way home while the rest of the group who didn't go up the tower had got drunk beneath it and gone out to play in town... Next time at least we will know to rethink our sensible tourist option!
Hoping for better days we slept like babies!
