I haven't ventured out into writing any posts like this before, but the Summer of being 21 has in fact inspired me to do so! Here goes nothing... 10 things you miss in your 20's when looking back to the your teens.
1. The buzz you get when you walk up the stairs into a club (in my case and many others, LICO) because you've just got away with somebody else's ID. Literally feeling like the dogs bollocks and a scene in a movie when you and the squad walk in, in slow motion with 'Crazy in Love' playing behind you and the wind machines in your hair!
2. Thinking you're setting the world on fire when you step up to the pole in the club, thinking that tragically spinning round it with a smise on will bring all the boys to the yard, unfortunately in reality it was probably the complete opposite to this. Not to worry though, vodka and jäger bombs have got your back on this one...you're still fabulous! (Hustle definitely catered to this).
3. Summers literally being THE BEST thing in the world! Like that scene in High School Musical where they all chant "summer summer summer" is legit your life at the end of your GCSE's and A-levels! Before work experience and real jobs were THE most competitive things in the world.
4. Having a free house literally was like being the popular kid in school, organising a big fat illicit meeting with all your mates! No wonder Brabourne for a minuscule amount of time was the place to be. Rather than now having a free house is like being the old cat lady, all alone with no mates at all! Sometimes I consider paying them just to come and keep me company (I joke, they're not that bad!)
5. Pocket money was just that! Just money you could throw around buying RaRa skirts (remember those), Paki Slippers (not in a racist way, thats just what they were called), your first bottle of Mickey Finn's! Rather than having to worry about the student loan tying you over, and how much vodka you need to ration for the week. Oh and food of course :)
6. Going into the local town was the 'cool' thing to do, and you needed nothing else to entertain you in life. Now when you walk in you wear 4 wigs a hoodie and sunglasses just in case someone recognises you and you have to make small talk! And if you actually did hang out in the local park in town now you'd have to seriously reconsider your life!
7. When McDonalds and KFC were serious dinner options that you didn't have to think twice about or feel guilty...and if you were really treating yourself, it would be a subway meal deal!
8. When GCSE's and A-levels were the real deal! Nothing and no one could ever be more important and if you didn't get a B or above your life would legitimately END. Being fully convinced that your entire life rides on those results and people will check you on them till the day you die... FYI, they don't. And even now I keep thinking the same about what I get in my degree, but I'm sure in 5 years time I'll be thinking the same about that too.
9. When you reach year 11 and get to wear those black jumpers (Highworth girls will understand) You have officially got your life together. I am an adult now and I can handle myself as an independent woman.
10. When a relationship is literally the best thing in the world with all the butterflies in stomach, head over heels kind of love. Before your preconceptions of the male gender wasn't tarnished by the nob heads that came before and the word cheating was never on the agenda. Then when the break up was a world of heartbreak and the most painful thing...before you realised that its probably going to happen a fair few other times so you might as well man up and little bit and introduce yourself to the ice cream isle.
Aw I feel so nostalgic.. And I'm only 20 in a few months! This post really reminds me of being 14/15 though.. Ahh such good days! x
