Valentines Essentials

For some of you the build up of Valentines is getting you all giddy, with an uncontrollable amount of butterflies in your tummy. For others you're planning how you can get royally smashed with your friends and forget all about the damn day, and for some its a bit different but the majority stays the same...yes, its Valentines day!

So this year I'm guilty of being in with the first lot, BUZZING for Val's Day! Being away from my boyfriend at Uni makes it all the more special!

So what are my essentials for valentines day, well black lace is always a must! You cannot go wrong (although I'm not giving away what it is). La Senza seems to have decent pricing, and when you get past the gross diamontes and bright pink against black look, they can have some decent stuff!

Topshop lipstick in a mixture of pinks, depending on the occasion and pink nail varnish with a Matte finish to add something a little extra.

The usual makeup routine, Mac foundation, Maxfactor Masterpiece mascara, Benefit Brows and Blusher and Baarry M eyeliner.

Me being the little quirk I am will always need a scrunchy no matter what the weather, so I've gone for my purple one! :)

And finally, THE CARD!
I have no idea why card factories STILL go on making the smooshiest cards which just make you want to vomit! I LOVE YOU FOREVER AFTER, YOUR MY SOUL MATE AND BEST FRIEND . .. . blah blah blah! BORE OFF!
I managed to find quite a cute and funny one in a little boutique shop at home, so thank god I've got that bit sorted!

Maybe you've got a romantic weekend away, maybe its just dinner, or maybe you're doing a bridget jones and stocking up on the ben & jerries, but whatever you're up to this Valentines day, remember that even if prince charming isn't there yet, you're still loved - and its a time to celebrate that :)

NARS

As you will have already read in my last posts I have been branching out makeup palettes in an attempt to become more of a girl (I bet my boyfriend is happy about this!).

I've already written about how I got on with Benefit's Browzing kit, so it was now time to try out my NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil. Like most other girls NARS had definitely been creeping up in topics of conversation over the last year or so, usually about his palettes, but nevertheless I had been hearing good things. So I thought I would jump on the band wagon and give it a go too! Now I can't even apply eyeshadow anyway so buying a palette seemed a bit stupid, Im pretty content with my mascara and eyeliner and I adore my MAC foundation. So lipstick it was! And I do love to wear a bit of lippy, I feel like even if the rest of me looks shit, the lipstick makes everything seem a little less shit. 

I know you would probably expect it to be smooth, as it does state Velvet on the label, but I'm sure I'm not the only one to have experienced false advertising! Genuinely I have to give it credit, it was silky smooth and applied really nicely. It was smooth enough to not make my lips crack, but not too glossy that it got stuck to my hair all the time like lipgloss (ergh!). 

My only comment would be that, because the lead is so soft, when I accidentally put the lid on the wrong way it did dent and being the clumsy person I am, I can imagine there will be times where I find its magically got over everything I own. But until then, I'm pretty content! 

And this was the final look :) Although I look like I have a Geisha Girl thing going on, I really like the lip pencil! Its perfect for days where your outfit is doing the talking so your makeup doesn't have to.

Lipstick Loves

K I S S   M E   Q U I C K

The colours on my lips this month have been quite adventurous for me, from a subtle beige to a colour popping orange, I know I have a lippy for every occasion.

 

Not only this but they last ALL NIGHT, literally.
I would recommend each and everyone of these brands, and as you can see I've bought 2 of the same with Maybelline New York's Colour Essentials.

Cheeky Megenta 07 - L'oreal Paris, Causse
Birthday Suit 250 - Rimmel London, Lasting Finish Lipstick

All lipsticks are mate colour, except from number 3 (Cheeky Magenta, L'oreal Paris, Causse) which has more of a gloss to it, resulting in the need for extra applications.

I don't know about you lot, but I always like my collection of lipsticks to look pretty, so presentation of the case is everything, and I feel these 4 definitely make the cut!!

Saturday's Consistency

Girls Night in Guildford

I WORE . . .

As some of you have probably noticed, orange is definitely the new red! Bright and bold is back, and I didn't hold back when going out last Saturday.

This Barry M nail varnish was perfect to add to my outfit. My nails standing out as much as my killer heels when the flash bounced back off them!

This paint was actually my friends, however it can be found at Superdrug and other beauty shops such as Boots! If you're feeling really outrageous then go ahead and buy the whole collection - yellow, blue, green! GO AHEAD STAND OUT.

 

To add to my theme of Orange, I coupled it with my new Maybelline Lipstick! Although I had my doubts when buying this as to how it would look, it actually comes out really well. If some girls are getting away with wearing blue lippy I'm sure its okay for me to get away with this one :)

I bought this baby from Superdrug for about £5 (although I cannot be exact).

 
The icing on the cake (for my face anyway) were my falsies! Although I'm not the fake eyelash kind of girl, I bought this model of eye lash for my Prom last year and they went down a treat. I only wore them a handful of times after that, however liked them so much that I bought them again for round 2.

Again these were purchased in Superdrug for around £6/£7, however they can also be purchased in clothing stores such as New Look.

They are brilliant for a night out especially just to add that extra glam. However if you're looking for a less bulky look on the eyes then lashes with gaps inbetween give a more natural appearance.

As featured earlier this week in 'I Bought', I took my babies for their second test run on Saturday, and although by the end of the night my feet did hurt, they were worth it. I can safely say that I was
probably the tallest one in the club, but I felt amazing!

Purchased at Topshop for £88 (bit of a purse breaker), they are worth every penny!

 

 

 

I STRUTED MY STUFF . . .

 

 Now although this may look like an amazing dress . . . it is decieving. However, it demonstrates one of the things that I do best . . . layering/mixing and matching. I absolutely LOVE the fact that even if I've worn something once in one way, theres always another to make it look different. Lets see how I did it saturday.
 Although I did have an outfit planned, when I came to putting it on I just wasn't feeling it (don't you hate it when that happens). Classic that I wasn't at home, so I had to improvise. One of my friends had a dress which was really nice however would have been too short for me to wear on its own. So I added it to one of my leather look skirts to create more texture to the outfit came out with my make-shift dress.

Not only did I love the aztec pattern going along the neckline of the dress, I also loved the back and the padded shoulders. Being an hour-glass figure, making my waist look as small as possible is key! This outfit provided me with that without showing too much skin! 

To add to the aztec theme of the neckline I added one of my new necklaces, featured in 'The Theme of a Triangle' post. I didn't want anything too bold, as then it would be TOO MUCH, but the triangle fitted in just fine.

Daily Essentials

My Face in a Nutshell.

I see these posts being done all the time on other peoples blogs, so I thought I would give it a go myself. Although I have to say I'm not one for wearing much makeup - there is pretty much none during the day because 99% of the time I'm dancing and in the evening, just my pure essentials. I seem to be one of those people who tends to look like a drag queen if I wear too much make-up . . . not the one! so I tend to opt for the more natural look. However a little bit of lipstick is usually applied in order to create the finishing touches!!

 

Base Line
So first thing is first, when doing my make-up and actually making an effort to not look like a complete homeless, The Base - Foundation. When I was younger I was never really tought how to put it on, or what colour was right for me so just by trial and error I've found one that works. I use Rimmel Lasting Finish 25, tone colour 303 - True Nude. I find that it gives me just enough colour (as I am like Snow White) but not too much to make me look like a wotsit. I apply the foundation with a foundation brush and I have done for years. The overall finish is much more even and you don't end up with streaks across your face. Its cheap and can be found in most drug stores, my common place is Superdrug as they do student discount! SCORE! Unlike other foundations such as 'Dream Mat Moose' it doesn't leave your skin feeling completely consealed and dry. My skin is naturaly quite dry and I find certain foundations just make it flake and enhance the dry look, whereas Rimmel doesn't. I also find that it lasts forever, I literally bought this one last week as my second tube. The first must have lasted me at least a year if not too! So again you won't be spending a fortune. Pretty in Pink

The next step of my normal routine is to apply blusher. Again I was never taught about colours or application before, and I think it was only during year 11 when my Dad bought me a set of Benefit Cosmetics make-up for Christmas that I actually got into wearing it. The rest is history, this blusher could very well be that same one that he bought me all those years ago. I just find that it lasts forever, if its not the first then its definitly only the second. There are many other shades of the blusher depending on your skin tone, however if you're pale, like myself I would reccomend 'Dandelion'. Lash Extravaganza

This is my favourite part of the make-up routine! I naturally have very long eye lashes and they are dark, however this has been known to give the effect of my lashes being FAKE! Time after time I get asked if I'm wearing them, but nope . . . its all me! I tend to put on one coat, wait until its almost dry and then put on some more so that it sticks in the place I want it to. It might seem like effort but its worth it. 'Maxfactor Masterpiece Max' lasts the whole night, and although I find its the item of make-up that I am buying the most I think thats purely because I use it most frequently. Its usually about £10 in Tesco which I find quite steep but I find myself bying it over and over, and its definitley worth the price! Eye Liner Flicks

I literally cannot remember the last time I went out and didn't do the flicks from the side of my eyes. I have used many eye liners over the years, however this one is by far the best I've ever used. Again it is more expensive about £9 (although I got mine at the airport so it could be more) but its lasted me 6 months so far, and we are still going strong. 'Loreal Paris Super Liner Luminizer' is definitly worth the buy. I have complete control over the lines and its never clumpy.
