Item of the Week

Top of the Crops
I have to admit I am very much a sucker for the classic crop top that has fairly recently become an avid aspect of fashion. Mainly because of my figure, my waist is the smallest part of my body, and crop tops compliment and enhance this! However it is hard to balance looking good and dressing for the weather. As we are all aware (well in the UK at least) the weather hasn't been at its best recently, and I wouldn't be rushing to the wardrobe to find my smallest crop top to go and play in the snow. Never fear guys there is an alternative. As seen in one of my earlier posts I bought a cute Mini Pastel Jumper from topshop which gives a quirky innocent/Miss.Honey from Matilda look. Last weekend when I was shopping it was only religion to go into Topshop and have a cheeky try on sesh. Here I found my favourite item of the week and I just could not leave it there! Although some will dissagree I haven't seen anything like it in other shops. Again it is a Crop Jumper but with a twist, it reminds me of vintage grandad jumpers with a modern edge, making it stand out against other items. It can be found here on Topshops official website. Its called Knitted Mono Morrocan Crop Jumper officially, and is sold at £38. I did think it was a bit steep when debating my student loan, but like I said, I just had to have it  . . . there was no way I was leaving it there, so I thought I'd share it with you. I am also thinking of making this item of the week idea into a regular thing so let me know your thoughts :)

My Choice of Accessories

Today I chose to wear my item of the week with a high waisted black skirt from topshop (sale item) and a Red pair of Nike Blazers. I bought these back in summer and can sometimes find it hard to find things to wear with them but this jumper is perfection! Not only does it mix up a vintage look with mainstream, it also gives the hipster/ indie look with it! I added my Parker Jacket from ASOS along with it to complete the look!

This is how we do it. . . At The Royal Albert Hall

Outfit Overview

Where From:
Black Bowler Hat - Topshop
Black and White Pinstripe Shirt - H&M
Beige Oversized Boyfriend Coat - Topshop
Black Wetlook Leggins - Primark
Cross Watch Pendant - Urban Outfitters
Black Suede Ankle Boots - Topshop

For my evening at the Royal Albert Hall I decided to go quite understated but still fashionable and edgy. Last weekend I jumped into the Monochrome Hype that seems to be in all the latest magazines and on the pages of the Topshop Website.

Monochrome Manifesto
My favourite buy of them all was my black and white pinstriped shirt, I'm sure this will feature in my wardrobe for a very long time! At 12.99 from H&M http://www.hm.com/gb/ it was a bargain buy. Its also quite interesting material wise as the main middle on the front is the silky sort of material you find on most shirts, however the sleeves and the back middle are more polyester/cotton type material. Although not completely noticable to the eye, it gives the shirt a quirky feel! It also looks great with high waisted black jeans tucked in, with leggins (how I wore it) and with high waisted skirts. A good item to be worn over and over again. I chose to wear it done right up to the top on this occasion but it also looks good buttoned down, or even worn open as a sort of jacket.

My Baby in Black
I have to say my black bowler hat is my baby and I absolutely adore it, even though my boyfriend hates it and tells me I look like Mary Poppins I wear it anyway! My advice to people on the hat issue would be to just f**k everyone else and just wear it. The amount of people that tell me that it really suits me but they would look stupid in it is countless. I get it all the time, and I then just tell them to put it on and 99% of the time they style it out just as well as I do. So stop being pussys about it and go and buy yourself one . . . you might surprise yourself. The hat also gives a really different edge to your look. I feel it makes you look sophisticated, fashionable and vintage! I have 2 more hats one in khaki green and another in maroon, but I do find myself wearing my black on the most. I purchased all of mine at Topshop, and although at first I was taken back by the price of £20/£25 and didn't buy one due to that. Every time I went in there I would try one on and be just as in love so in the end I gave in and now I have 3! I couldn't be more happy that I spent the money and bought them though as they've enhanced my style so much. Definitley worth the money!

Bargain Jewellery
I have to say, I usually steer well clear of Urban Outfitters when shopping because I know when I go in there I will LOVE everything and not be able to afford ANYTHING. However last weekend I took the risk and had a sneeky peek. Thank god I did because I came out a very happy girl. After trying on some clothes that just weren't working with my physique I decided to opt for jewellery, and guess what I found. . . A SALE!! So instantly I was scouring the shelf through all their little quirky bits and bobs and I found my baby. A cross necklace watch pendant thingy which ACTUALLY TELLS THE TIME! That was the best bit. And also a cute little cross bracelet. Anyway although it was meant to come to £16 total I thought I'd treat myself. So I get to the counter and they tell me its only £8 for the two!! I WAS SOO HAPPY! That is a pet love, absolutely makes my day when that happens, and then when I get home I have to tell everyone in my flat my little story! So get your bums down to the Urban Outfitters Sale and see what goodies you can find!!

Leather Look
Although I know some stuff in primark can be a pain in the arse, because it can be shit, funny fitting or bad quality. There are times when I go in there and just want to buy loads because everything is good. I'm sure I'm not alone in this tendancy. Anyway buying these wet look leggins was one of these billo days! At a first look they werent very presentable and I thought they would either be really small or really short on me. Nevertheless I tried them on and they were actually perfect fit which made me feel nice and slim for once #win! They are also really comfy like normal cotton leggins. I do have a pair of high waisted wet look disco pants from Topshop which are similar but I'm forever pulling them up and them and my body don't always see eye to eye. So when I found these I was made up and they were only a TENNER in comparason to the £28 I spent on the annoying Topshop Disco Pants. So if you're in primark give these a lookout!

My Face in a Nutshell.

I see these posts being done all the time on other peoples blogs, so I thought I would give it a go myself. Although I have to say I'm not one for wearing much makeup - there is pretty much none during the day because 99% of the time I'm dancing and in the evening, just my pure essentials. I seem to be one of those people who tends to look like a drag queen if I wear too much make-up . . . not the one! so I tend to opt for the more natural look. However a little bit of lipstick is usually applied in order to create the finishing touches!!

Base Line
So first thing is first, when doing my make-up and actually making an effort to not look like a complete homeless, The Base - Foundation. When I was younger I was never really tought how to put it on, or what colour was right for me so just by trial and error I've found one that works. I use Rimmel Lasting Finish 25, tone colour 303 - True Nude. I find that it gives me just enough colour (as I am like Snow White) but not too much to make me look like a wotsit. I apply the foundation with a foundation brush and I have done for years. The overall finish is much more even and you don't end up with streaks across your face. Its cheap and can be found in most drug stores, my common place is Superdrug as they do student discount! SCORE! Unlike other foundations such as 'Dream Mat Moose' it doesn't leave your skin feeling completely consealed and dry. My skin is naturaly quite dry and I find certain foundations just make it flake and enhance the dry look, whereas Rimmel doesn't. I also find that it lasts forever, I literally bought this one last week as my second tube. The first must have lasted me at least a year if not too! So again you won't be spending a fortune. The normal retail price is £6.99 which isn't bad for make-up (click here for this product)

Pretty in Pink
The next step of my normal routine is to apply blusher. Again I was never taught about colours or application before, and I think it was only during year 11 when my Dad bought me a set of Benefit Cosmetics make-up for Christmas that I actually got into wearing it. The rest is history, this blusher could very well be that same one that he bought me all those years ago. I just find that it lasts forever, if its not the first then its definitly only the second. There are many other shades of the blusher depending on your skin tone, however if you're pale, like myself I would reccomend 'Dandelion'. The retail price of this baby is £23.50 but again in certain stores you may be able to get student discount! (click here for product)

Lash Extravaganza
This is my favourite part of the make-up routine! I naturally have very long eye lashes and they are dark, however this has been known to give the effect of my lashes being FAKE! Time after time I get asked if I'm wearing them, but nope . . . its all me! I tend to put on one coat, wait until its almost dry and then put on some more so that it sticks in the place I want it to. It might seem like effort but its worth it. 'Maxfactor Masterpiece Max' lasts the whole night, and although I find its the item of make-up that I am buying the most I think thats purely because I use it most frequently. Its usually about £10 in Tesco which I find quite steep but I find myself bying it over and over, and its definitley worth the price! In Superdrug its sold at £9.99 and again in store you get student discount (click here for product)

Eye Liner Flicks
I literally cannot remember the last time I went out and didn't do the flicks from the side of my eyes. I have used many eye liners over the years, however this one is by far the best I've ever used. Again it is more expensive about £9 (although I got mine at the airport so it could be more) but its lasted me 6 months so far, and we are still going strong. 'Loreal Paris Super Liner Luminizer' is definitly worth the buy. I have complete control over the lines and its never clumpy. Smooth and Sleek and recommended to all of you that like to be creative with the liner :) (click here for product)

Cirque Du Soleil

This post is going to be a little bit different to the usual style, and I hope you readers don't mind. I'm going to take you on a little journey through the amazing evening I've had. Now, before I begin I would just like to say that I nowhere near lead the glamorous life of 'The Londoner', so evenings like the one I'm about to tell you are of the rare type.
It started this afternoon, I'd say about 4.30, I'd just had one of the most boring lectures known to man about modernist dance in America - not the best of interests as you can imagine. So, its raining (of course it is, its Roehampton - its always raining!) and obviously the best time to get into a fit of hiccups would be at the bus stop. Now would probably be the best time to inform you that my hiccups are far from the ordinary - I sound like a whaling, whimpering puppy (if you can just picture that for a moment) you may understand why its so embarrassing to have them at a packed bus stop. Hair done, Shoes on and ready to go...the bus drives straight past me because its too full . . . brilliant. So along comes the next, and obviously only I would have no money on my oyster when I need it most. I start to haggle with the bus driver as if hes a Turkish man selling fake ray-bans on the beach. He wasn't having any of it! Luckily there are still kind people out there and a young chap had change that I could use in order to buy a ticket (I thanked him greatly of course). It made me realise I need to start being nicer to strangers, that was a bit of karma that came in my luck today!

Fast forward an hour, give or take some, and I meet my Dad for dinner in a little pub in South Kensington which was nothing special but still lovely. Dad and I put the world right with our conversations over some beer and cider (the usual) and then headed off for 'The Royal Albert Hall'.

We finally get in, after passing streets of amazing houses in Kensington which I now have a dream to live in (we'll see how well that one works out). As we get to the second floor Dad assures me that its the right level. I, however, clueless to his plans am very confused as it says 'Grand Tier' and all the entrances are labelled as 'Boxes' ours was 26 :). As my Dad explained we were one down from a box I was getting a bit worried he was losing it with his old age. Nevertheless we walked up to the young man in red and asked to be shown our seats! With astonishment WE WERE IN A BOX!! Its safe to say I've never been more excited.
So we get settled in, well apart from the man in front of me who was clearly trying to impress his date after the 3 bottles of Moet he fed her with. As I start to squeal in anticipation (much like a 5 year old who just got her first Barbie) the audience was brought to a silence by the sound of a 'breaking an entry' alarm and the voice "MOVE AWAY FROM THE STAGE".
With all eyes down, we are met by an interesting figure . . . a clown, who uses his remote control (a recurring symbol throughout the piece) to turn off the alarm. As the lights dim there is a complete hush among the audience, all awaiting the unpredictable spectacular about to explode. . .

Here are a few pictures that I managed to sneekily snap, as photography is not prohibited within the theatre. If you want to hear more on the show, I will be doing a follow up article on my 'Trends' page this weekend once I've got all my thoughts and figures together, so look out for that to hear more!
Of course, the theatre trip would not have been quite complete without a classic 'Hagen Daz' ice cream during the interval, and without fail, Daddy did not disappoint :) YUMM!!

Hope you enjoyed reading about my amazing evening! I would recommend it to people of all ages to go and see, theres something for everyone. Even my Dad who is hard to please was laughing the entire time, and loved the live jazz music that was played throughout. Like I said I will write a more in depth review of the piece shortly so look out for it :)

1920's Theme

Leading on from my latest post in 'Trends' focussing on the 1920's era and the infamous Great Gasby. I decided to create my own few outfits with the element of the 20's mixed with what we wear today.

The Past and Present Collide.

1. Motel Roxanne Bandage Dress In Monochrome and Mesh 2.Roller Bowler Hat 3.Chunky Layered Ivory Pearl Necklace

4. Oh My Love Off The Shoulder Skater Dress 5.River Island Wet Look Bow Stretch Head Band
6.
7.Susan Caplan Vintage Karl Lagerfeld 80s Necklace 8. ASOS Double Stone Hair Brooches

9. ASOS Pearl Cross Stone Multirow Necklace 10.French Connection Pearl Necklace 11. Deepa Gurnani Chain Drape Head Band

I felt as though the ideas for necklaces in 9 & 10 emerged from the theme of the multi-row pearl necklaces that were popular in the 1920's. This kind of look within jewellery is very prominent at the moment, showing how older trends are coming full circle into todays fashion scene.
