JESSICA WRIGHT -PHOTOGRAPHER.
The Basics
Name: Jessica Wright
Age: 18
Education: Studying Fashion Photography at London College of Fashion (UAL)
Interests: Photography, Culture, Fashion, Socialising (don't we all love that one!)

"PHOTOGRAPHY RUNS THROUGH MY VEINS"

FASHION FANATIC
As most of us find, when getting into the routine of being a Terrible Teenager we all start to be aware of the way we look and our dress sense. Jess is no different, "I first started to become interested in fashion when I was about 15". For many people clothes is a means of presenting ourselves when we can't any other way. It can also be a way to built confidence which is lacking during younger years - I can admit to having this same dilemma when I was younger and Jess assures me that she got interested in fashion the same way. "As the years went by and my hobbie in photography became a huge part of my life, and I realised I could combine both fashion and photography, therefore combining my two favourite things"

POINT BLANK
"What started off my passion for photography was in year 8 when I was looking at what GCSE's to choose. I saw the photography stand, and mind you I've never been the 'academic' type. I saw this photograph of this one tomato sitting in the middle of this white fridge and it made me think why? I wanted to know more about this subject and why people photographed things in certain ways. This simple photograph sparked off my imagination and started my photography hype."
I think its always important to have that creative outlook in life, whether it be just a hobbie on the side or a career it allows you to acess that part of the mind that you don't get the opportunities to do in other things. If you don't have that creative aspect in your life, some popular suggestions would be: photography, collage making, blogging, playing the guitar (or any instrument), painting, drawing, singing, dancing, designing, creating sketch pads, acting, creative writing, or travelling.

THERES A THIN LINE BETWEEN LOVE & HATE
"Photography is a love hate relationship for

me sometimes"
Being fustrated and impatient is a common trait in all of us, after all we are only human! Jess shares, if shoots did not turn out the way she wanted that these traits tended to appear for her.
"In a way my own practice scare me as well. I get worried about getting things wrong and what others think of my work. Art/Photography is all about opinion, one person may love it but others hate it. You have to justify your own work".
Not every one is perfect, and no two peoples opinions are ever the same.
BEST VS. WORST
When asking Jess this question it seems as though to her, there is no worst in photography.
"Photography is amazing, you get to meet and work with such intelligent and lovely people."

PHOTOGRAPHY IN FASHION
"Fashion photography is all about working in a team with a stylist, hair & make-up artist, asistant, model & photographer." Without these essential people there to fill in the gaps, Jess states that a photographer would crumble.

DO YOU STILL ENJOY IT NOW?
For some, me included, going to study your passion can have the opposite effect - you turn out to hate it and look in other directions to try and find another passion. HOWEVER Jess still loves it. . .
"I love photography, it is my passion and my future. I don't know for definite which direction of work I want to go into when I leave University yet, but I know that my future holds photography - As my Mum says: It runs in my veins".

LCF FASHION PHOTOGRAPHY COURSE
"So I'm Studying BA Fashion Photography at the moment at LCF (london college of fashion, as part of university of the arts london). Half of it is theoretical and essay based, and the other half is practical. It's a good balance, although my heart defiantly lies with photography as you would probably agree."

HOW TO GET STARTED
"I would advise anyone that wanted to be a photographer, no matter what direction you wish to go in: DO GCSE's, A-Levels, then do a foundation degree, then finally go to University to do a BA Hons Degree, Then possibly a Masters. I went straight to University from A-levels, not that I regret it, but with art and a practice like this you need as much experiece in the field as you can get. A foundation degree gives you that experience before University. Also networking & work experience is crutial as you can gain contacts and possible work placements from that"
It may seem like the long way around but it's defiantly worth it - it will give you the upper hand on other students that are applying to do the same things as you. If you are rejected from University the first time DO NOT GIVE UP especially within courses such as this one as they are so popular and in demand. Take the year out, get experience, do a foundation degree, do a short course and re-apply again the next year - ITS NEVER TO LATE TO START YOUR DREAM.

EXCITEMENT
When I asked Jess what her most exciting experience within her short career of photography she said:
"My most exciting experience must have been when I was being interviewed at LCF for a place on the BA Fashion Photography course, Mark Lebon was my interviewer and he loved my work (but little did I know who he was at the time). It makes you feel so proud when someone with his experience and knowledge in the field of photography appreciates your work.

INSPIRATION
"What inspires me most is PHOTOGRAPHERS such as Norman Parkinson's stunning film photography, Tim Walker & Chadwick Taylor, as well as Edward Weston . . . I could really go on forever.

FAVOURITES
Tell us about your favourite project . . .
"My favourite photography project must have been my British Culture project where I got to learn all about my own culture and photograph different locations and themes around this topic which taught me a lot about the country I live in (England)."

STYLES & ERAS.
"I really like to work on location as I feel it talks about the fashion that is shown in the photograph and encompasses emotion and feeling into the images, unlike a studio where these emotions are not created. I like to express imagination and take risks within my photography. To push the boundaries a little bit more, to see what experience I can gain, whether its good or awful. I also love analog photography because it is always a surprise as you never know how your images will come out. There is always this special feeling with analog because its raw, its actually there and you can control and hold it within your hands, YOU become the true photographer.

4 YEARS TIME. . .
"I want to have graduated University with a job lined up that I can go straight into to continue my passion for Fashion Photography. However, I am aware that the first time doesn't always work out . . . If so then I may take a year out, or do a masters degree. I am uncertain of my future at the moment so for now I will just go where the wind takes me"
I would agree that this is defiantly a good moto to have, not everyone gets it perfect first time around!!

Lipstick Loves

K I S S   M E   Q U I C K

The colours on my lips this month have been quite adventurous for me, from a subtle beige to a colour popping orange, I know I have a lippy for every occasion.

Not only this but they last ALL NIGHT, literally.
I would recommend each and everyone of these brands, and as you can see I've bought 2 of the same with Maybelline New York's Colour Essentials.

Electric Orange 912 - Maybelline New York, Colour Essentials
Pleasure Me Red 547 - Maybelline New York, Colour Essentials
Cheeky Megenta 07 - L'oreal Paris, Causse
Birthday Suit 250 - Rimmel London, Lasting Finish Lipstick

All lipsticks are mate colour, except from number 3 (Cheeky Magenta, L'oreal Paris, Causse) which has more of a gloss to it, resulting in the need for extra applications.

I don't know about you lot, but I always like my collection of lipsticks to look pretty, so presentation of the case is everything, and I feel these 4 definitely make the cut!!

Raiding the Wardrobe #1

T U R K E Y   A T   B E S T

Yes I know the title does read to be a little misleading, sadly I'm not about to start talking about Christmas dinner and how amazing the turkey was (which it wasn't).

We all have those days where we are bored of our clothes:
"I have so many clothes but nothing to wear" (this is my line everyday!)
"I have no clothes" (when they are actually spilling out of your draws)
"everything looks horrible on me" (nope, you still look like Megan fox)

Sometimes its the occasion, and others its the weather, maybe its just the lighting in that room, but we have all had our moments, days, YEARS, when nothing we try on looks right.

This is the beauty of living in a flat with all girls (especially ones that are all completely different from each other). I have many a time delved deep into the pits of my flat-mates wardrobes to find something to wear, and today was no different.

Seeing as you always get to see and read about my clothes, I thought it would be interesting to see theirs, and their styles.

Today I introduce you to 'opposite roomie' Catherina! Shes always updating me on her style splurges and new finds, and getting back from her Easter break in her hometown of Turkey was no different, so here I am to share with you MY favourites of her buys.

W I N D Y  B U T  W A R M.

Evening you lot, firstly (this is becoming too much of a regular occurrence) I am very sorry for being away for so long! Easter break was a hectic one, but also full of decision making.

My University update is that I am off to Nottingham Trent in September to study fashion communication and promotion!! Which I am both excited and scared about, but you regular readers have been a big part of my life changing step.

Anyway . . . I've been trying to be good with taking pictures of the outfits I wear everyday so instead of boring you all with lots of writing, I'm going to give you a few pictures of the outfits that have jumped out at me from my wardrobe.

I'm also trying to make this 'outfit a day' thing a bit of a project, to see how long I can keep it up for!! It is also being featured on my instagram 'mini_monts' if you would like to follow me and keep updated with my outfits there.

Interview with Tie Dye Queen - Sophie Davis-Evans

Sophie Davis - Evans - Designer of Own Clothing Line.

I first heard about Sophie's new clothing designs and buisness from my Dad, as crazy as that may sound he was the one urging me to do what she was doing. However, not having the same creativity as she does I thought he was MAD. But . . .Sophie assures me that its not that hard to do.

The Basics
Name:Sophie Rose Davis - Evans
Age: 15
School: Highworth Grammar School
Interests: Photography, Playing around on the internet, & Music.
Fashion Status: Making and selling her own TIE DYE Tee's and Socks.

Like any teenage girl Sophie expressed to me that she is slowly getting more addicted to buying clothes. I can vouch for this one in saying that it only gets worse and more addictive (especially with the access to a student loan). However Sophie wasn't always so interested in the fashion scene. It was only since starting an all girls school that she started to get more interested within fashion and more concious about the clothes she wore. It shows that its not always the people that have always been 'Fashion Queens' and 'Divas' that are able to design and be creative in making their own clothing line.
Your Style
" like a bit of everything, I like vintage as well as more modern styles, I prefer mixing different things together and seeing how it looks." This style can clearly be seen in the way Sophie creates and styles what she designs.

When did the penny drop for you?
"I've always been interested in having my own business or making money for myself, so I saw making tie dye t-shirts as my best opportunity."

Starting point
TUMBLR - Sophie stated that she noticed that a lot of people on tumblr were starting to make and wear tie-dye things, so she thought 'WHY NOT'. "I decided to try and make something myself, I made a simple blue and green tie dye t-shirt which got noticed by a few of my friends who were happy to buy one if I made a few more, and it all grew from that". I don't know about you, but when I think about starting up my own clothing business and designing it all myself it seems like a massive mountain that is just impossible to climb. Not to mention when we have essays pilling on top of us that just seem to be growing taller and taller. Don't lose hope! If thats your dream, as Sophie has shown, it can start off small and just grow. It may not be as impossible as it looked . . . who knew!

Little Blips
"At the start it wasn't too tricky, because I was only making t-shirts for myself and a few friends but once I started selling them on eBay, more and more orders came in, and sometimes I didn't have the time or motivation to do them, but I still managed to keep on track (just about!)" Nothing great is ever that easy!

Best & Worst Bits
"The best bits were when I got the money and could treat myself! But also when I got feedback from them and to hear that people really liked them and where pleased was also a highlight.
The worst bits where probably staying up late at night trying to keep on top of orders."
Personally I'd rather stay up all night making tie dye tee's than getting an essay done because the deadline is the next day, mixes things up a little bit!

"Yeah I still really enjoy it now, it gives me something to do"

KEEP YOUR EYES PEELED
Sophie let me in on a little secret, and you readers will be the first to know. . .
Although at the moment she is mainly making tee's, she has just started to make some of her own socks - and everyone is a sucker for a cute pair of socks! Not only this, but she is looking to start making her own tie dye jumpers and bags! Cannot wait to try and get my hands on one of them!

Advice to those wanting to do the same
"It's really easy to get started, you just need to be motivated and have an idea of what you want to do. The best advice to give is to carry on, even if you do get fed up and to think about the perks of the outcome, but also to keep thinking of new ideas."

Ultimate goals?
"My ultimate goal is probably to carry on selling or making my own business out of, just on a bigger scale. In 4 years, I'd like to see myself at uni studying business studies or even to carry on selling more clothes possibly along with other things."
You've Got Nothing To Lose
"I just suggest that anyone who has an idea or is interested in something like this to just give it a try, because there's not a lot too lose"
